Today in Toronto, Natural Resources Canada and its Energy Innovation Program announced funding to the PTRC for our new CO2 Reservoir Evaluation (CO2RE) project, which aims to inject a new observation well into the CO2 storage locatoin a t
he Aquistore site. This is a world-first project in many ways, drilling directly in a reservoir that has been CO2-saturated for more than ten years. Aquistore currently has close to 650,000 tonnes of CO2 stored at the site, and the new well will help researchers determine the effect of CO2 on the rock matrices, fluids, reservoir pressures and other elements in the storage formation that have not previously been attainable.
PTRC's Zeinab Movahedzadeh was in Toronto for the announcement and posed with the Minster of Natural Resource, the Honourable Tim Hodgson.
