As power generation capacity is increased in Saskatchewan and Canada, utility scale energy storage will be an integral part of this industrial development. In cooperation with Brian Brunskill and Robert Stewart, PTRC is sharing this white paper to demonstrate how the use of compressed air energy storage (CAES) technology - using salt caverns in Saskatchewan - can provide unlimited storage capacity.
Utility storage:
- helps to smooth generation
- provides arbitrage opportunities with neighbouring jurisdictions, and
- removes the ceiling on development of renewables, thereby heavily supporting the economy of rural Saskatchewan.
